Cid was born in the Great Orlandu hall in
Bethla Garrison, the capital of the empire of Bethlaah. Born
into the Orlandu family he was destined to become a knight, and one day, like
his father Isic Orlandu, to become the Lord Gerenal of Bethlaah’s millitary. But
by the code of the Orlandu family he could not simply use the family name to
speed to the top of the ranks. On
his eighteenth birthday he swore an oath to disregard his family name until he
gained personal honor.
Then came the “War of the Great Divide”, a civil war between the High and Low
lands of Bethlaah. The Orlandu knights swore the fight for the Highlands and Cid, who had just
finished officer training, became second in command to the Ninth Highland
Cavalry.
After a few battles the commander was killed by a stray arrow and Cid toke
command. When Cid became their
commander the Unit was given a new task: To enter deep into the lowlands and
start raids on the Lowland trade system. The
unit hade many victories and Cid received several metals for honor and courage
in the face of the enemy. Some two years later while Cid’s cavalry unit was
resting he got a letter from his father ordering him to travel to Bethla
Garrison as fast he could.
The doors of Orlandu hall opened and Cid walked in for the first time in two
years. But his visit turned out to be one of sorrow and not of rejoicing, for
he found his father on his deathbed. His
father spoke “You have earned your honor my son and you are worth of the
Orlandu name. I fear I as nearing an end and you must take my place. I
give you the command of the Orlandu knights, the leadership of the Bethllaah
army, and the title of Lord Gerenal.” Cid was silent a moment, then he kneeled beside
his fathers bed and grasped his fathers hand. Isic
coughed loudly and his eyes closed with the final words, “I’m proud you were my
son.” The war was over and the Empire was peaceful again.
Fifteen years passed sleepily in Bethlaah. But
peace didn’t last. A race of
barbarians called the Gliglantari had begun an attack on the country of
Palankcaren in the east.
The barbarians had opened a portal of some kind in the area between Bethlaah and
Palankcaren and were also attacking Palankcaren from the north. At
first this war was on no real concern of Bethlaah, but that soon changed.
Bethla’s senate deliberated for days and finally determined that the
Gliglantari were a threat the safety of Bethlaah and they must be removed. As
the barbarian attack moved in on the west of Palankcaren Cid lead three legions
to attack the barbarians. The
Gliglantari were not aware of the true strength of Bethlaah and didn’t expect
an attack so when Cid’s armies attacked in the rear the battle was a swift
victory. The legions hit the light
troops in the rear and leveled them along with all the Gliglantari’s supplies. The
attack on the west of Palankcaren had bin stopped and the Palankcaren army
along with the help of other kingdoms from the foreign lands of Terra and
Dominia stoped the attack from the north. The war was over and Cid’s legions
headed back to Bethla Garrison.
But Cid was even curious about these new lands called Terra and Dominia… |
