Frequently Asked
Questions: Immortals
5.0 What Is An Immortal and How
Do I Become One?
Immortals are responsible for running Redemption. They have a
wide variety of different jobs which include designing new areas,
looking for cheaters, running quests, and coding.
When a new IMM position is available, the IMPs will post a
note to all and ask for applications. You must be level 51 and
should have some general knowledge of Redemption. Please do not
request IMMship before you see a note from the IMPs. When a
position opens up, everyone will have a chance to apply for it.
5.1 Hey, I've Become An
Immortal, What Do I Do Now?
Immortals have specific tasks at given levels. "Help
immortal", "help duty", and "help
(level)" will list them for you. Perform your assigned tasks
if you don't want to lose your immortal or be retired.
5.2 Is There Any Other Way I Can
Lose My Immortal?
Yes. Cheating by an immortal is not tolerated at Redemption.
This includes, but is not limited to, helping your friends mortal
characters and helping your own mortal characters. Section 1.9
lists other things you should avoid. Also see "help
IMMRULES" and "help Commandments" for specific
details.
5.3 So Interaction With
Mortals Is Strictly Forbidden?
Of course not. Immortal intervention in mortal affairs is kept
at a minimum here. But, if a level 2 needs directions on where to
train, telling him/her would be fine. However, if a level 30 asks
directions to Mahn-Tor, providing the character with that
information would be inappropriate. Use some common sense.
5.4 How Do I Know What
Commands I Have Now?
Typing 'wiz' will give you a list of immortal commands
available to you. If you have questions on what they do, check
the help file on a command or ask another IMM.
5.5 What Is This Wiznet Thing?
Wiznet allows immortals to see many things taking place on
Redemption. Player deaths, logins, etc. Type 'wiznet' to sign on
and off of wiznet. 'Wiznet show' will give you a list of options
to toggle on and off.
5.6 Why Can't Any Of The
Mortals See Me?
You are probably wizinvis. "Wizi" is a command which
hides you from any character below your level.
"Incognito" provides the same argument except anyone in
the same room as you can see you.
5.7 Great, So I Can Run Around
Wizi And Harass The Mortals?
No. As stated before, immortal intervention into mortal
affairs is forbidden. Wizinvis is provided to immortals so that
they may perform tasks without being interrupted by mortals. Do
not abuse the privilege.
5.8 Can I Run A Quest Now That
I'm Immortal? What About The Prize?
Any immortal can run a quest. At Redemption, we try to make
them a bit different than your average find-the-item or answer
the trivia. Put some thought into your quest. Think of something
you would enjoy if you were a mortal. Keeping in mind the theme
of the mud is a good idea too.
Quest prizes can range from gold to items. It is up to the
IMM. Again, use common sense and try not to give out overly
extravagant prizes.
5.9 A Character Has Just
Asked Me For A Restring, What's That?
Restrings are done in order to encourage and aid in
role-playing. A restring is an item which has been renamed. For
example, a young evil mage might rename his backpack into
"the Magic of Darkness". Avoid creating a restring
which has no relevance to the theme of the mud. For example,
restringing a sword into "Dirty Harry's Magnum"
wouldn't be very role-play related.
There is no cost for a restring, just be sure it is role-play
related.
5.10 I Just Caught A
Character Cheating, What Do I Do?
Talk to the character and explain he has violated the rules.
Many players are often new and ignorant to the rules. Tell them
to read 'help rules'. There is nothing lost by giving a player a
warning for a first-time offense.
Repeat offenders should be dealt with more harshly. Immortals
have the ability to 'lag' a player caught cheating.
After warning or penalizing a player, post a note to the other
immortals so they will be aware of the situation. Bring major
offenders to the attention of the IMPs, the character(s) will be
dealt with swiftly.
It is also a good idea to be visible when you are giving out
penalties, that way the mortals don't think that you are unsure
of your action.
5.11 What's The Deal With OLC?
OLC or On-Line Creation is the most common way that areas are
built and modified on REDEMPTION. In order to use OLC you have to
be given a security and a set of VNUMs with which to build. There
is currently no documentation for OLC but any of the IMMs
familiar with the program will be able to help you with it.
5.12 What Are Some Of The
Common Mistakes Immortals Make?
Quests: Remove your quest notices after you've run the quest.
It is okay to post a follow up note about who won the quest.
Switch: If you switch into an aggie mob it REMAINS aggie. That
means if you switch into Tiamat and goto recall, you're going to
kill a lot of newbies.
Force: If you force a storekeeper to give you something in its
inventory (ie a diamond) the storekeeper will no longer be able
to sell that item. Therefore, DON'T force storekeepers to give
you stuff.
Gecho: The Gecho is not your personal channel to harass
players or joke around on. It is okay to make announcements on
this channel but DO NOT abuse it.
5.13 I'm Still Really
Confused.
Talk to another immortal. They may be busy with a job, so
their response may take a bit. But, they will answer any
questions you may have if they can. We are all here to make
Redemption a fun place. Use your powers wisely, and never let
your powers use you.
